Processing is fast—most consulates return decisions within 2 to 3 months, faster than Portugal's D7 which typically requires over 6 months. THE TRADEOFF: the income threshold is approximately 2.6 times higher than Portugal's D7, and you are ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED from working in Spain, including remote work for foreign companies under some consulates' strict interpretation. You must spend over 183 days per year in the country, which makes you a tax resident.

No. The program ended in April 2025. There is no longer a real estate purchase option to obtain a Spanish residence card. Applications submitted before that deadline continue to be processed and renewed under the old rules. Anyone still offering 'buy property for €500,000 to get a Spanish residence card' is using outdated information.

In principle, yes. Spain requires renunciation of original citizenship upon naturalization, except for nationals of Latin American countries, the Philippines, Andorra, Portugal, and Equatorial Guinea. Vietnam is NOT on the exemption list. In practice enforcement has nuances, but you are obligated to clarify this point with a Spanish lawyer before targeting naturalization—this is not a minor detail.
