No, and it is the only independent Eastern Caribbean state without one. Its five neighbours — Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Lucia — all have one. Successive governments have publicly refused, arguing that selling passports risks sovereignty and national reputation for a return not worth it.
By genuine residence. Naturalisation generally requires around seven years of lawful residence, most of it physically present, together with sufficient knowledge of civic life and a clean record. Dual citizenship is permitted.
It is an active volcano. In April 2021 it erupted explosively, forcing around twenty thousand people in the north of the island to evacuate, blanketing much of the island in ash and causing heavy agricultural damage. Combined with a position in the hurricane belt, natural hazard here warrants serious consideration.
They are among the world's best-known sailing grounds — clear water, short hops between islands, steady trade winds. The chain comprises some thirty small islands including Bequia, Mustique, Canouan and Union Island.
Much improved since Argyle International Airport opened in 2017 — before that the country had no airport for long-haul jets and all visitors connected through Barbados or St Lucia. But direct routes remain few.
Local facilities are limited. For specialist cases the standard approach is flying to Barbados, Trinidad or further. International health insurance with medical evacuation is effectively mandatory — in a country of a hundred thousand, not optional.
The Eastern Caribbean dollar (XCD), shared with other OECS states, pegged to the US dollar and stable over a very long period. An advantage for those earning in US dollars.
Very difficult. A market of a hundred thousand offers almost nothing for foreign workers outside specialised sectors. The realistic path is bringing your work with you, or investing in tourism, accommodation or marine services — yachting is where genuine demand exists.
